Privacy Notice
Effective October 18, 2026 · Seller: The L Words
Who is responsible
The L Words is the seller and data controller for personal information used to provide this website, free ebook, workbook, and online reader. Our card payment processor handles payment card information under its own privacy notice; we never see your full card number.
Information and why we use it
- Account information: name, email address, telephone number, account identifier, account creation date, and login credentials are used to create and authenticate your account and provide signed-in access. Telephone numbers are private account contact details, not public reader information; collecting a number does not authorize marketing calls or texts. The legal basis is performing the agreement for the service.
- Reading activity: rounds opened or completed, account identifier, and event timestamps are used to understand readership and provide owner statistics. Download events include their source and timestamp. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating and improving the service.
- Reader preferences and progress: current and completed rounds, font size, line spacing, contrast, narrator choice, speed, and follow-along preferences are stored in your browser to remember your choices. They support the reading experience you request.
- Payment records: if you buy the ebook, we share your email and account identifier with our payment processor to associate the payment with you. We retain the transaction reference, purchased product identifier, payment environment, and timestamp for payment administration and records. The legal bases are performance of the payment agreement and legal recordkeeping obligations.
- Technical information: hosting and service providers may process IP addresses, browser or device information, request details, and error information to deliver and protect the service. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in reliable operation and preventing misuse.
When you use narration, book text and your selected voice are sent to our speech service to generate audio. The feature does not request microphone access or record your voice.
Who receives information
Service providers supporting hosting, authentication, database storage, error reporting, and speech generation process information needed for their services. These include Lovable Cloud and the services supporting it. Our payment processor receives information for payment processing, receipts, tax compliance, and payment support. Professional advisers may receive information when needed for legal or accounting matters, and authorities may receive it where required by law.
Retention and account deletion
You can permanently delete your account from your account page after confirming your current password. This removes your profile, personal reading activity, download history and access. Necessary financial records are retained without an active account for tax, accounting, or legal obligations. Previously downloaded files remain on your device. Payment providers maintain their own legally required records.
Your rights
Depending on the laws that apply to you, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information, restriction of processing, portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. You may also complain to the relevant data protection authority. Rights are subject to applicable legal limits, including required payment recordkeeping.
Security and processing locations
We aim to apply appropriate technical and organizational measures, including access controls, to protect personal information. No website or transmission method can guarantee complete security. Our providers may process information in countries other than your own; applicable transfer requirements and safeguards must be considered when using these services.
Cookies and browser storage
Authentication uses browser storage to maintain your signed-in session. The reader uses local storage to remember progress and preferences. Our own reader does not include advertising cookies. Hosting, authentication, and checkout providers may use storage or cookies necessary for their services; consult their notices for details. You can manage cookies and site storage in your browser settings. Clearing or blocking essential storage may sign you out or remove saved reading preferences and progress.
Changes
This notice may be updated as our service changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. See our Terms & Conditions for the conditions of using The L Words.
